Yearn to Learn

We have had the privilege of bearing witness to numerous great leaps in our student's process with learning. As an instructor, we work to create an environment and culture of choosing to learn. Based on our experience, students advance most rapidly when they want to learn - not when parents, principals, or even slipping grades suggest they should put in extra time outside of the fixed school day. In this regard, we spend the time connecting with and getting to know each student - what they do outside of class, what lights their fire, etc. and challenge them to create goals for their learning. Goals can be anything: turning in their next assignment on time, starting the essay when it is assigned rather than when it is due the next day, etc. Through getting to know our students, their learning tendencies, and their goals, we create a culture of learning centered around our students' desire to learn. 

Integrating Technology

In our modern digital era, we can do a lot with technology inside and outside the classroom. Depending on a student's individual needs, we may suggest engaging with online practice tools such as NoRedInc, Freckle, or Newsela as well as Canvas to help students stay organized with outside-of-session exercises. We are very hands-on and will never spend a whole session passively assisting your student through assigning work to be completed online. 

After each session, we type out individualized session recaps detailing how your student is doing and giving parents an insight in to how my time with you students is going. Session recaps will be sent to parents via email.

We Cater to You!

When assessing what is best for your student's learning, some tutors try to implement a fixed curriculum to aid and supplement your student's learning. We believe that the only way we can help your student is by understanding where they are today and working with both you and your student to determine how we can best serve your student's needs. To achieve this, we take the time to evaluate where your student is and help create a plan, in tandem with you, the parent, to help your child achieve academic success. The only thing we ask is that the student has the time to devote to practicing concepts learned in session and is willing to work diligently.

Always Available

If we could, we’d be there every day with the student to help guide them.  But we can’t.  Therefore, we are always available to ask questions/advice via e-mail!

Ultimately, the main goal of all of this is teaching students to love learning as much as we do!
